How to Cleanse Your Home’s Energy: Your Guide to Spiritual Spring Cleaning

The Art of the Invisible Cleanse

I’ve always been an "energetic sponge." Call it intuition, a gut feeling, or just high sensitivity, but when a space feels “off,” I feel it instantly.

My home is my sacred sanctuary—the place where I rest, unwind, and invite calm in. I believe your environment certainly contributes to your wellbeing, which is why it is essential for me to feel truly “at home”and surrounded by good vibes.

Why Energetic Cleansing Matters

Everything is energy, and energy needs to flow. When it gets stagnant, the space feels heavy, blocked, or just "dusty" on a soul level. You wouldn’t dream of skipping your daily shower or checking into a luxury hotel room that hadn't been cleaned in a year, right? Well your home deserves that same level of TLC.

How to Cleanse a Space Energetically

Our ancestors held deep wisdom on keeping a home positively charged, with salt, clove, and other natural secrets. Unless that knowledge was passed down by your elders, these best-kept-secrets are often lost. Consider this my “two cents” to help you invite positive energy back into your space.

My preferred methods involve two simple elements: Smoke and Sound.

The Art of Smudging

Smudging is the practice of burning sacred plants to clear the air.

  • Method: Carefully burn the tip of your Palo Santo, Rosemary, or Sage. Once lit, gently blow out the flame to create a steady stream of smoke.

  • To Put Out: Use a heat-resistant surface, like an abalone shell or a ceramic bowl, to let the smoke die down naturally.

  • For Daily Maintenance: I reach for Palo Santo or dried Rosemary. They have a lighter, sweeter scent that acts like a "breath of fresh air". Move through your home, focusing on the corners—that’s where energy (and dust!) loves to get trapped.

  • For the Deep Cleanse: Sage is my go-to. This herb has been used for eons to reset a space energetically. During my Reiki training, we were always saged before entering the room to ensure we started with a clean slate.

  • Pro Tip: The smell of Sage is powerful! Open your windows to let the old energy and the smoke out.

  • Fill the Space: Once finished saging, I like to burn a stick of natural incense to "fill" the newly cleansed space with fresh, positive vibes.

The Power of Sound

If smoke is the "wash," sound is the "scrub." Sound frequencies physically break up stagnant energy, making room for positive waves to move back in.

  • Clapping: Use your hands! Go to the center of a room and clap loudly twice. It breaks the static tension instantly.

  • The Deeper Reset: I use my Tibetan singing bowl or shamanic flute, moving through the house. The vibration clears the path for new, joyful energy to enter.

Where to Shop

If you’re looking to add sound to your ritual, I highly recommend Ritual Sound. It’s where I found my flute, and they have an incredible selection of spiritual instruments such as Tibetan bowls, gongs or handpans. I’m currently obsessed with their Blue Moon Carrillon - it’s easy to play and brings an instant zen vibe to any room.

For Smudging ingredients like Sage and Palo Santo, head over to a local herb store. If you’re in Spain, Herbolario Navarro is a fantastic resource. Internationally, many crystal shops carry these essentials (check my post on Where to Buy Crystals) for more favourites!).

Your home is your sanctuary. Keep it light, keep it bright, and keep the energy moving. Sparkle away!
