Maca Root

Adaptogen, hormone balance, metabolism booster.

Origin

Maca is a Peruvian root from the cruciferous family (including radish and broccoli), also known as Peruvian Ginseng.It has been used over the ages as a herbal health tonic and was thought by the Incas to enhance fertility.

Food Type

The maca is root is harvested, dried out and ground to a fine powder. In Peru it is also consumed baked or in a soup.

Nutrients

Rich in Vitamin B, C and E. Provides iron, iodine, magnesium, zinc, calcium and phosphorus.

It’s good for

Boosting energy and libido, as well as balancing hormones. It helps the body adapt to stress, easing anxiety and depression and helps regulate your metabolism. It has also traditionally been used to treat fatigue and boost the immune system, giving you a great energy kick slowly after consumption.

Flavour

Malted slightly nutty flavour. A bit of an acquired taste.

Uses

In smoothies, mixed in protein balls, brownies, açai bowls or energy bars.
